MANILA, Philippines—Forty-three of the top local players in the BPO space will be battling it out in this year’s International ICT Awards.

According to Richard Mills, ICT Awards chairman and one the judges, the ICT Awards formed part of the country’s marketing efforts, similar to the large-scale awards that India is also giving out every year.

“When they win, companies place write-ups on their websites, and this also helps our marketing efforts. Only India has something as large and as prominent as this,” he said.

Among the more than 100 nominees in seven categories, 43 were named finalists, with the winners to be announced on March 31. Three individuals—TeleDevelopment Services president Bonifacio Belen, Genpact Philippines country manager Danilo Sebastian Reyes, and New South Wales Commercial Consul Michelle Sanchez—would be vying for the ICT Individual Contributor of the Year honors.

Getting the most finalists were the BPO Company of the Year and BPO Employer of the Year categories with eight each, followed by the Non-Voice Excellence of the Year and Shared Services Excellence of the Year awards with six nominees each.

The Best New BPO Locator of the Year, Fastest Growing BPO Company of the Year, and Most Innovative BPO Company of the Year had five finalists each.

“This is only our fifth year, but the quality of nominees and submissions has improved tremendously,” Mills said.

“The nature of the awards has also changed. At the onset, our focus was mainly on job generation. While jobs are still important, the categories are now more holistic. We’ve added categories, like shared services, that weren’t there before.”

Among the nominees for BPO Company of the Year are last year’s winner Convergys Philippines Services Corp. and last year’s Non-Voice Excellence awardee SPi Global Solutions. The other finalists are Accenture Inc., IBM, Sitel Philippines Corp., Stream Global Services, Sykes Asia Inc., and Teleperformance Philippines.

Vying for the BPO Employer of the Year award are past winners Telus International Philippines and Sutherland Global Services. Also in the running are Aegis Peoplesupport, Citibank Business Process Solutions Pte. Ltd., Genpact Philippines, Integra Business Processing Solutions Inc., Teleperformance Philippines, and Transcom Worldwide (Philippines) Inc.
