NEWS: Gensan Hosts National ICT Summit

Sharing in the common vision of transforming the country into a world-class global services provider, information and communications technology (ICT) councils from all the major cities and provinces will gather next month for the 4th National ICT Summit.

The annual event organized by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) since 2008 will be held this year at General Santos City on November 4 to 6, 2011.

This year’s summit, anchored on the theme “Championing Country-Wide Digital Develop-ment”, is hosted by the ICT Solutions Association of Region 12 – General Santos City (ISA 12-GSC).
NICP Chair Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said the Department of Interior and Local Government has issued Memorandum Circular No. MC2011-158 encouraging local government units to participate in the summit.

The summits brings together experts to speak on improving ICT ecosystems in the countryside, updates on business process outsourcing and human capital development, and areas of collaboration to generate jobs and investments.

The event is unique from all other ICT national conventions because it is conducted in the countryside and outside of Metro Manila where seventy-percent of the country’s human resource can be found, Batapa-Sigue said.

Aside from ICT Councils, ISA 12-GSC chair Ronald Velasquez, who is also the summit chair, is expecting distinguished representatives coming from government, private sector, the academe, and other key collaborators in the ICT sector.

Previous national ICT summits were held in Iligan City, Clark Freeport Zone, and Bacolod City have been resounding successes and so this year’s gathering envisions to follow through and build on the unity we have established in previous summits, Velasquez stressed.

NICP’s mission to be the recognized national venue for collaboration, share best practices, and be the unified voice for the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry of the Philippines.

The summit is supported by Microsoft Philippines, e-PLDT, ABM Global Solutions, Teledevelopment and and the City Government of General Santos City. For more information, one may email
