The Philippine STAR Career Guide has helped thousand of applicants find a job in its year-long campaign. This recent job fair is the last for this year and is expected to continue by January of 2017. The reputation of the Job Fair has increased over the past year, with such event held almost every other month in different renowned malls across Metro manila. There are more job seekers turning to these Job Fairs in  hopes of landing their dream jobs.

It is, however, important to remember that the companies who participate in this event also have their strict requirements. As per Ms. Tessa Mercado, an HR Recruitment specialist from a prominent Real Estate company, “We look for applicants who are presentable as it is the primary qualification we are looking for – sometimes, there are those who are wearing sandals.” The same is noticed by some of the other companies that the lack of confidence is also another factor for an applicant’s unemployability. “They are sometimes not prepared and cannot express themselves freely” – added by Ms. Monica Pangilinan, a recruitment associate.

Job hunters must always remember to be presentable every time they are to attend a job fair. First impressions are important to catch the eye of the recruiter. With hundreds of people lined up waiting to have their applications processed, it is highly unlikely that they will dedicate much time for one applicant. Most of the time, initial screening and interview are conducted on the site of the job fair and applicants will be asked to proceed to the companies’ main headquarters to continue with the recruitment process. Job seekers are encouraged to be ready and presentable. “Our goal here at the job fair is to get quality applicants that will fill in our vacancies, applicants must always be prepared” – shared Ms. Donna Guillermo, an HR Supervisor.

Hundreds of job positions were offered from the retail industry to real estate and hospitality careers. There were even recruitment companies who offer free training and assessment. As with the past PhilSTAR Career Guide Job Fairs, both the job seekers and recruiters were treated to fun games with movie passes and gift cards given away. Ms. Kris Angelica graced the opening ceremonies with her powerful renditions of contemporary hits.

As per Ms. Arlyn Servañes, Manager of the Career Guide, “we are planning to offer a more varied selection for job seekers by encouraging more companies to join.” More companies will be participating in next year’s Career Guide Job Fair. One can expect thousands of more opportunities on landing a perfect job or a better career. For more tips on how to prepare for the job fair, check out the articles you can find on resources.werk.ph.
